Whether you’re a nostalgia-seeking adult or are just breaking into your teens, lace up for a night under neon lights! It’s been a long time coming, but Calgary is finally getting a new roller rink – one that will likely host many a birthday party, bachelorette, and first date for years to come.

Set to open at 42 Highfield, 1010 42nd Ave SE, House of Skate will be the place for gliding, tumbling, and wholesome fun for people of all ages – much like its predecessor Lloyd’s, before shutting down in 2018.

According to Calgary Roller Skate who is leading the charge, the new facility will open to the public this winter and though an exact date and further details have yet to be announced, we bet that it’ll be an absolute blast.

Over the last few years, the organization has held a ton of pop-up events, themed nights and even a festival which have all contributed to keeping Calgary’s ‘zest’ for the activity alive – but there is one thing of note before they open their doors.

As of right now, House of Skate does not have a wheel-ready floor and they are asking the public for donations in exchange for a number of perks when they launch.

“We’ve put everything into making sure our doors can open,” they explain on their Indiegogo page.

“What we don’t have is enough finances for that maple floor that Calgarians grew to love over the last 60 years before our last rink closed. We want to raise $125,000 to give Calgary the skate floor we all deserve.”

Interested in contributing? Depending on what you’re able to give, you could receive a 50% discount on your first skate, sneak-a-peak tickets, a private party, merch, or a founding members plaque displayed at the rink. Pretty cool, no?

Get practicing and hang tight Calgary. We’re ready to roll!
