Nestled between the stunning Monashee and Selkirk mountains, Revelstoke is a former railway town that’s now known for its plentiful outdoor adventures, no matter the time of year. Its historic downtown has an open-air art gallery, its colourful trails transform every fall, and there are tons of snowy adventures to look forward to this upcoming season.
Revelstoke gets a lot of snow every year, so spring is an ideal time to go chasing waterfalls. But this time of year is also a fantastic opportunity to uncover some of the area’s most breathtaking, hidden waterfalls, including Sutherland, Begbie, and Bear Creek Falls in Glacier National Park, all of which freeze over during the colder months.
So whether you want to embark on a short fall trek through pine and hemlock forest to the flowing waters, or save your journey for a time when you can snowshoe to the frozen falls, you’re guaranteed a memorable experience.
According to Tourism Revelstoke, the scenic town was founded in the 1880s when the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) was built through the area. Since then, it has evolved into an “epic” adventure hotspot — though a stroll down the historic downtown is a necessary addition to any trip.
Here, visitors will find a slew of charming specialty shops and locally-owned restaurants, cafes, bars, and distilleries.
There’s also a walkable open-air art gallery that has transformed its picturesque streets and alleyways with vibrant artwork that illuminates the night.
Starting in 2019, the public outdoor art movement began to introduce new art pieces every year, which are officially added to the scene around the time of the annual Luna Art Festival.
Want a fun winter event to look forward to? Revelstoke’s three-day Winter Carnival takes over Centennial Park with live music, arts, and carnival games every year, so stay tuned for 2026 info to come.
How to get there: Drive six and a half hours from Vancouver to Revelstoke via Trans-Canada Highway/BC-1 E, BC-5 N and Trans-Canada Highway/BC-1 E.
