There’s a city in Ontario holding a massive holiday home decorating contest

One city in the province is getting into the holiday spirit in a BIG way! Port Colborne, Ontario is holding its annual Home for the Holidays Decorating Contest, where residents decorate their homes in hopes of being declared as having the best holiday decorations in the area.

Not only are there prizes to be won, but it illuminates the area with holiday cheer, making it an excellent stop if you’re looking for somewhere to see light displays this season.

Port Colborne, Ontario

Located on the shores of Lake Erie, Port Colborne is a popular spot in the summer but is making a point to draw people in during the colder months.

If you’re planning a road trip, getting there will take you just under three hours by car from Toronto.

Home for the Holidays Decorating Contest

Port Colborne has been holding the Home for the Holidays Decorating Contest since 2020.

There are two categories that residents can participate in: best lawn display/house lights and best balcony/door display. This means that all home types can get in on the fun including apartments and condos.

Submissions must be in by Monday, December 9th, 2024 and the voting is up to the public. Submissions are put on the city’s Facebook page and from there, the best ones take the win.

The winners from each category receive a $200 gift card to a Port Colborne grocery/food store of their choice for their hard work.

Port Colborne, Ontario truly is the ultimate destination for all things Christmas because the holiday fun doesn’t end there.

The city puts on a Lighted Santa Claus Parade on Saturday, December 7th and a local Christmas Makers’ Market on Saturday, November 23rd, too.

We know which city we’ll be visiting this festive season!
