Welcome back to the Calgary Group Chat! It’s been a busy week around the city, and if you’re out of the loop, we’re here to catch you up. From Wingstop opening a new location at CF Chinook Centre to Alberta ski hills announcing their season opening dates, there’s plenty to chat about.
Let’s get into the latest happenings around Calgary and everything you need to know.
Wingstop is opening its second Calgary location this Friday, Oct. 23, at CF Chinook Centre.
CF Chinook Centre says the location will be Canada’s largest Wingstop and will feature a custom mural.
If you’re already thinking about what you’ll order, the menu includes bone-in and boneless wings, tenders, and more than 12 sauces to choose from. The new location is also bringing a Calgary-exclusive Golden West BBQ flavour to the menu for a limited time.
Another round of water restrictions is coming this fall, starting on Nov. 4 and lasting around four weeks. According to the City of Calgary, crews will enforce Stage 4 restrictions while they fix the existing water system.
During the restrictions, you’ll be asked to conserve water indoors by keeping showers to three minutes and only running dishwashers and washing machines when they’re full.
The leaves have started to fall, and temperatures have dropped, which means ski season is just around the corner. Several ski hills across the province have just announced their opening dates, so if you’re already itching to get back on the slopes, here’s when they’re expected to open.
As for Calgary’s own WinSport, its opening plans are a little less certain. Because of the Stage 4 water restrictions we mentioned earlier, limited snowmaking could delay the season’s start, so you might have to wait until December to ski close to home.
Luc’s European Meats has opened a new storefront at Southcentre Mall, so if you’re already thinking about holiday shopping, this is a great spot to find something for the foodies on your list.
The Calgary favourite also has a location at the Calgary Farmers Market, and the new location will make it much easier for everyone living in the south to get ahold of their delicious meats, cheese and condiments.
A new walkway recently opened along Memorial Drive and is bringing more than a century of Calgary’s military history to life. The Veterans Walkway stretches five kilometres from Metawa Armoury to the George C. King Bridge, with 31 commemorative medallions connected to more than 100 stories.
And with that, you’re all caught up for the week, Calgary. The city always keeps us on our toes, and whenever something new opens, or there’s something worth knowing, we’ll be here to fill you in.
Enjoy the rest of your week!
