Pearson Airport will have its busiest travel day in two years this Friday

Heads up, travellers. If you’re jet-setting over March Break, be prepared for a busy scene at Toronto’s Pearson Airport.

Pearson has released a notice saying that this Friday will be the busiest travel day the airport has seen since the start of the pandemic, with 85,000 passengers arriving and departing throughout the day.

What’s already a busy time of year for travel will be even more hectic with Canada’s global travel advisory now lifted. However, existing government measures remain in place, meaning longer wait times and delays.

Plus, ongoing staffing challenges are continuing to affect the companies and agencies based out of Pearson Airport.

The airport says it is committed to making travel as efficient as possible for everyone, but passengers should “pack their patience” and give themselves plenty of time to make their flight.

Those travelling domestically are asked to arrive 90 minutes prior to departure, and at least three hours in advance for international trips.

Passengers landing at Pearson should expect “significantly longer” wait times too, compared to pre-pandemic days.

“Passengers arriving from international destinations will experience additional screening and health checks, which may result in delays,” the airport said in their advisory.

“Finally, all fully vaccinated travellers eligible to enter Canada must provide a valid pre-arrival COVID-19 antigen test result taken no more than one day before their flight’s scheduled departure or a molecular test result taken no more than 72 hours before their flight’s scheduled departure.”

Travelling abroad isn’t as easy as it used to be, but compared to where we were this time last year, we’re counting our blessings.
