This Ontario town is a ‘world-renowned jewel’ along an archipelago

This might be one of Ontario’s best underrated small towns. Perched along the shores of Georgian Bay, the charming town of Parry Sound in Ontario is a hidden gem that’s worth exploring.

In fact, it’s the “world-renowned jewel” among the 30,000 islands on the Bay, according to its website.

What makes Parry Sound truly special is its location on the largest freshwater archipelago in the world.

Designated as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in 2004, the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve is a testament to the town’s natural beauty and ecological importance.

But it’s not just about the stunning landscapes here. Parry Sound is a hub of arts, culture, and heritage.

The town has a variety of festivals throughout the year and a thriving community of artists, performers, and musicians.

The Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts, the West Parry Sound District Museum, and the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame are three must-visit attractions.

For those who love the great outdoors, Parry Sound has you covered.

Take a stroll along the 6 km Rotary and the Algonquin Regiment Fitness Trail, which leads to the North Shore Rugged Trail.

Along the way, you can dip into the pristine waters, have a picnic at Waubuno Beach, or witness a mesmerizing sunset over Georgian Bay.

In the winter, you can snowmobile for kilometers on groomed trails, skate and toboggan at the Kinsmen Park, or ice-fish on the Bay.

There’s also the incredible Tower Hill Lookout, an observation tower that stands tall at 30 metres high, overlooking Georgian Bay and the surrounding landscape.

Parry Sound is a delightful blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and endless possibilities for fun and relaxation, making it a true gem in the heart of Ontario.
