By Nov. 1, your Halloween pumpkins are likely headed for the compost bin. But in Sylvan Lake, those leftover jack-o’-lanterns could help make history. The Sylvan Lake Pumpkin Trail is returning this November, and organizers are attempting to break two world records with thousands of pumpkins.
The event runs Nov. 1 to 7, and organizers hope to beat the record for the longest line of carved pumpkins, as well as the longest line of uncarved pumpkins.
So if you want to help Sylvan Lake reach its goal, here’s everything you need to know about the Pumpkin Trail and how to get involved.
The Pumpkin Trail has become a fall tradition in Sylvan Lake, bringing the community together to turn their leftover Halloween pumpkins into a massive display of jack-o’-lanterns. According to organizers, the 2025 trail featured 3,731 pumpkins, and this year they hope to involve even more people as they work to break two world records.
The first record they’re chasing is the longest line of carved pumpkins, which currently stands at 4,164. They’re also hoping to beat the record for the longest line of pumpkins with a target of 8,672. To have a shot at both, they’ll need plenty of pumpkins from the community and anyone who can contribute, even if you don’t live in Sylvan Lake.
The Pumpkin Trail runs from Nov. 1 to 7, 2026. You can drop off pumpkins throughout the week, so organizers have time to build the display and work toward both record attempts. The final pumpkin count is scheduled for Nov. 8, when organizers will tally the total to see whether the town has made history.
You can drop off your pumpkins at Lion’s Park in Sylvan Lake between Nov. 1 and 7. And you don’t need to live in Sylvan Lake to participate, so if you’re carving a jack-o’-lantern for Halloween but don’t want to toss it away once the Holiday is over, you can bring it and help add to the trail.
So if you want to see if Sylvan Lake can pull off these two world records, head down and add your pumpkin to the trail. The more pumpkins the town can gather, the better its chances of making history!
When: Sunday, Nov. 1 to Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026; Official Count Day: Sunday, Nov. 8, 2026
Time: All day
Where: Lions Park — 5012 48th Ave., Sylvan Lake, Alta.
Cost: Free to participate or walk the trail
