There’s a new contemporary French bistro in Toronto & it’s in a warm, intimate setting

A new French bistro just opened in Harbord Village. Parquet, which is located at 97 Harbord Street, is a collaboration between longtime friends and is a celebration of their passion for ” reimagined French classics, warm, personal service, and a buzzy, welcoming atmosphere.”

Lawyers and new restaurateurs Daniel Bernstein and Matt Cohen opened Parquet with some industry experts like executive chef Jeremy Dennis (Burdock, Chantecler, Woodlot, Montgomery’s), and maître d’ and sommelier Lexi Wolkowski (Brothers, Bar Raval).

As an intimate, and warm space, Parquet seats 50 guests indoors, with seating for an additional 50 on the patio.

“Matt and I come from a law background but have always had a deep passion for food and hospitality – we are not your typical restaurateurs. But, we’ve been fortunate to join forces with our favourite chef, sommelier and design firm – with some crucial tips from Woodlot’s David Haman – to create a new neighbourhood destination,” said Bernstein, co-owner.

“Our vision is that Parquet will become a go-to spot for creative French dishes, interesting wine and excellent cocktails, nestled within a vibrant, welcoming room.”

According to the restaurant, Parquet’s menu “is designed for sharing, encouraging a fun, convivial dining experience.” You can expect dishes like Shrimp Fritters, and Digby Scallop Cru which features delicate Nova Scotia scallops, in a pool of Peruvian tiger’s milk and topped with thinly sliced peppers.

Of course, the French bistro also has iconic dishes like Steak Tartare, Gruyere Tartine, Cassoulet featuring a rich duck confit, and Steak Frites.

Parquet offers mostly French wines, as well as a list of 9 cocktails which includes the “Mort Subite” a $25 drink that features absinthe, apricot, and champagne.

If you plan to check it out soon, be sure to make a reservation in advance!
