One Canadian label from BC has landed on the 2021 ‘Wines of the Year’ list

Last week, the international wine publication Decanter teased its list of the wines of the year for 2021, and one Canadian label has landed on the list. According to them, Canada’s Wine of the Year belongs to the Pentiction winery Painted Rock for their ‘Red Icon’ blend. Here’s a quick rundown!

Painted Rock is a single vineyard operation, and has been producing reds, whites and rosés since 2004. The winery is located in the ‘Shaka Bench’ region, which is also home to brands like Blasted Church and Black Dog. Fun fact- the region was only recognized in May of last year.

So winning the title of Canada’s Wine of the Year is a good start. Painted Rock’s Red Icon 2017 features a blend of Merlot, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot, Cab Sauv, Malbec and Syrah. We’ve yet to try it out, but we will say that the grape blend does bear some similarity to Bordeaux wines, which are often called the best in the world.

And, you won’t have to break the bank to try this out. The Red Icon 2017 is available on the Painted Rock website for $59.99/bottle. If you’re looking to try Canada’s Wine of the Year for 2021, then just click here!
