They’re baaa-ck: Calgary’s Nose Hill Park to be taken over by goats this fall

The sun is out and the goats are back, Calgary! This fall, the city’s hard-working furbabies will take on Nose Hill Park in hopes of reducing the volume of dead vegetation and invasive species in the NW – but there are a few things that you need to know before they hit the ground grazing.

As of October 14th, 2022 Calgarians should be aware that a herd of 260 cuties will begin eating their way through Rubbing Stone natural parkland to remove invasive weeds like the pesky Canada thistle.

By doing this, native vegetation will be able to grow in its place, improving biodiversity and healthier wildlife habitats.

It’s important to note, however, that while they look ridiculously cuddly – the goats are city employees and you won’t be able to play with or pet them.

Until the job is done, officials have asked that everyone stay a respectful distance from both the herd and shepherd to keep things safe and speedy.

In addition to this, it will be important to keep your dogs on a leash at all times and, that if you’re riding your bike through the area, you slow down in order not to spook them.

For those of you who feel like you just can’t help yourselves, maybe consider checking out Cobb’s Adventure Park or Granary Road, which both have goats meant for petting… after all, If you wouldn’t try to snuggle someone working the DMV, you also shouldn’t try to cuddle a Nose Hill goat.
