We all know that Seattle’s growth has been pretty crazy the past few years. Part of that is of course new housing and because so many people have come to the city you’d assume apartments would get smaller right? Well, it turns out that’s not exactly true because apartments in the Seattle area are getting bigger.

This data comes from a new study by RentCafe which took a look at 92 cities’ apartment floorplans in buildings that were under construction. Overall, 36% of city’s were already trending toward larger apartments compared to the past 5 years. Kind of surprising right?

Just wait until you see where some of King County’s city’s sit on the list. Everett, Washington actually saw the largest increase in square feet with an additional 267 square feet. Following pretty close behind is Kirkland, Washington with an extra 211 square feet. Really though, who would’ve thought?

To put things in perspective the average size of an apartment currently under construction in Everett is 1,195 square feet. And that kind of makes us wonder where Seattle is sitting. We’ll assume that things are getting a bit smaller in the city but we could be wrong after all the data in this study was kind of surprising.

It’s also worth noting that both Redmond and Aburn also placed on the list meaning that Washington is getting bigger in many ways. If you’d like to check out more of the study you can click here. Have a great week Seattle!
