An award-winning outdoor pool with a lazy river soon opens for the season in Metro Vancouver

Coquitlam’s Mundy Park is not just a hit for its forested trails. Its aquatic facilities include an outdoor pool that will soon open for the season, and it just won two major provincial awards.

Set right at the forest’s edge, the park’s aquatic facility got a handful of major upgrades last year, including a renovated lap pool and dive tank, a new ramp, a new beachside leisure pool, an expanded deck, and a lazy river.

The facility also now has fully accessible universal change rooms, washrooms (available year-round), and poolside amenities, making it easier for everyone to enjoy this prime Metro Vancouver spot.

Two provincial awards

The pool now features eight 25-metre lanes, an updated dive stand, a climbing wall, expanded lawn seating, and an inflatable obstacle course. Given its many recent upgrades, it’s no surprise that the pool has a couple of new accolades under its belt.

For one, the pool received the B.C. Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) Facility Excellence Award for Projects over $6 million, which recognizes outstanding design that reflects community needs and accessibility.

According to a representative of the City of Coquitlam, the outdoor pool has also earned the 2026 Bill Woycik Outstanding Facility Award from the Recreation Facilities Association of BC (RFABC) for its excellence in addressing a clear community need while demonstrating innovation, operational efficiency and overall impact.

Securing your spot, swim rates, and more

Ready to dive into outdoor pool season? Visitors are encouraged to register in advance online, though some drop-in spaces are available.

Online registration for weekends is available 48 hours in advance of your swim. Weekend pre-registration isn’t always a must if you get lucky, but it never hurts to secure your spot ahead of time.

The drop-in fee to access the pool is $2 per person, according to a representative of the City of Coquitlam.

Note that while lifeguards are on duty throughout the facility, all children under the age of seven must be accompanied by an adult in the water.

The outdoor pool will open from May 30 to Sept. 7, operating from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday to Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekends.

Note that swim meet days will close the pool to the public on July 17, 18, 19, 31, and Aug. 2, 2026.

According to the City representative, the pool is scheduled to operate at different hours from Sept. 8 to Oct. 4, so stay tuned for more info on that to come.
