This famous B.C. train ride is among the most scenic in the world

Things are heating up for B.C.’s tourism industry as the summer months near, and a new global ranking has named Vancouver-based luxury train Rocky Mountaineer one of the best for those looking for memorable views.

United Kingdom-based InsureandGo recently unveiled its list of the world’s most scenic train journeys.

According to the travel insurance company, trains can be a more comfortable and more sustainable way to see the sights.

“Train journeys not only let you take in your surroundings at a calmer pace and give you enough room to stretch your legs, but they make travelling itself part of the trip too,” said writer Mellisa Hutchins.

InsureandGo created its ranking by showing the study’s participants multiple images of views seen from train routes around the world.

Eye-tracking technology was then used to track how long the participants looked at the scenery, as well as how fast their eyes were drawn to it. Each route on the list was given an “eye-catching” score out of 100.

The top Canadian train route was the Rocky Mountaineer, landing in seventh spot with a score of 83.2.

“Rocky Mountaineer is one of the most famous luxury rail experiences in the world,” wrote Hutchins. “Travelling through British Columbia and Alberta, the scene is cinematic: prepare for views of glaciers, lakes, eagles and the occasional bear or elk in the valleys below.

“Don’t worry about booking the right seat, the carriages have floor-to-ceiling windows so you don’t miss a single moment. Plus, it only runs during the day, so you can catch the Rocky Mountain scenery in all its glory.”

Also on the list was the White Pass & Yukon Route in tenth place, which scored 76.9.

Rocky Mountaineer has earned several global plaudits in recent months, being named one of the world’s most exciting train routes as well as one of the best things to do in the world in 2026.
