This island in Canada is accessible by driving across the ocean floor during low tide

If you love exploring Canada’s many islands, it’s time to put Ministers Island in New Brunswick on your map. Situated just off the shore of St. Andrews is a 500-acre National Historic Site surrounded by unparalleled views. And best of all? During low tide, visitors can walk or drive across the ocean floor to access it.

The historic island was once the summer estate of Sir William Van Horne, the president of the Canadian Pacific Railroad who led the construction of Canada’s first transcontinental railway in the late 19th century.

Visitors can tour the 50-room Van Horne mansion, livestock barn, bathhouse, windmill, and cottages. And if you’re up for a scenic hike during your stay, you can hike over 20 km of maintained trails.
