This Ontario park known for its floating boardwalks has a maple syrup festival

It’s that time of year! maple syrup season, of course.

In Ontario, maple syrup season usually begins in March and goes until mid-April, the perfect time to tap for the syrup. The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre, known for its floating boardwalks through the marsh, is getting in on the fun by holding a maple syrup experience this spring – and we have the details.

The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre is located on 3,000 acres of Provincially Significant Wetlands and woodlands in Tay, Ontario in the Heart of Georgian Bay.

The boardwalks through the marsh are one of the main attractions. Some people even get married along them!

According to the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre, The Sweetwater Harvest Festival is their biggest special event of the year running on March 23rd and 24th.

This festival has no shortage of festivities! Here are some of the things guests can look forward to:

  • Sugar Shack demonstrations to see how sap is turned into liquid gold
  • An open fire (weather permitting) to roast Bannock on a stick
  • Games
  • An Indigenous storyteller
  • Make and take craft station
  • Birds of Prey Field with owls, hawks and eagles
  • Forested trails and the boardwalk to see the marsh stir to life after a long winter’s nap
  • Local maple syrup and honey for purchase

Before you head to Wye Marsh, guests can also check out the other nearby site, Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons.

Tickets get you into both areas with Sainte-Marie holding various activities as well including:

  • Indoor and outdoor scavenger hunts
  • Tastings of delicious cornbread in the cookhouse
  • Historical costumes in the Shoemaker/Tailor’s workshop to try on
