Guess what, brunch lovers? West Vancouver’s Ambleside neighbourhood is about to get a new dining experience that you’ll want to check out. Inspired by the iconic cafe culture throughout France, Merèon combines the best of French bistros with tasty brunch dishes – so get ready to treat your tastebuds at the end of the month.
What’s more, the restaurant’s culinary visionary is none other than Emmanuel Joinville, the chef and owner behind Gastown’s beloved Jules Bistro. Although set to close at the end of the year, the spirit of Jules will live on at Merèon.
So if you’re looking to discover a new spot for authentic French fare, you’ve just found it.

Owner and North Shore local Ophelia Arida took her inspiration for the name from ‘Mère’, the French word for ‘mother.’ Since the 18th century, the title has been bestowed upon female cooks throughout France, and particularly Lyon, where Arida spent much of her own travels.
“Those trips helped me develop my passion to host and showcase the sort of hospitality and home-spun cuisine for which French culture is so well known,” says Arida. “It’s a place that’s nostalgic, welcoming and evocative, where guests can gather around the table and enjoy a little joie de vivre with friends, family and loved ones.”
Its menu will include time-honoured French recipes like Monsieur, Madame, and Forestièr Croque sandwiches, Quiche du Jour, Eggs en Cocotte, French Onion Soup, Steak Frites, and Signature Socca – to name a few tempting dishes.
Set to open on Wednesday, January 31st, the 52-seat space will serve up brunch five days a week from Wednesday to Sunday, from 9 am to 3 pm.
