About a four and half hours drive north of Toronto is Marten River Provincial Park. It’s an adventure waiting to be explored.
One of the park’s most notable features is its replica logging camp. This educational exhibit allows visitors to step back in time and see what life was like for those that once worked in the area.

“The day use area is next to the Winter Camp, a replica logging camp that brings a bygone era to life. Along with a number of log buildings and period logging equipment, there is a museum and theatre,” shares the site.
According to Ontario Parks, the camp offers a glimpse into the past, showcasing the tools, techniques, and daily routines of those who helped shape the region’s history.
For those looking to explore the natural beauty of the park, embark on a trail.
The 4.2 km Transition Trail is a must. It takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete and offers hikers a journey through a variety of forest types, from mature pine stands to a Black Spruce bog.
Along the way, you’ll encounter remnants of massive pines, including a 350-year-old White Pine, a true testament to the area’s rich natural heritage. The Transition Trail is interconnected with the Old Growth Trail, which is 3.5 km and takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes, and the Pine Marten Trail, which is 0.8 km and can be completed in about 30 minutes.
Marten River Provincial Park also boasts three beautiful natural sand beaches, perfect for swimming and relaxation.
The beaches are marked with buoys and have gradual drop-offs, making them ideal for families. However, it’s important to note that there are no lifeguards on duty, and pets are not permitted on the beaches.
