Leavenworth made the cut for being located in the prime spot of the eastern slopes of Washington’s Cascade Mountains. It’s also where Highway 2 starts, meaning those who drive from Seattle get to see fall foliage along almost the whole route to and from. Or those looking for a little extra adventure can head south on Highway 97 to visit the forests of Blewett Pass.

If you plan on visiting Leavenworth you can, of course, visit the Bavarian inspired town, enjoy Oktoberfest, check out an alpine coaster and even go zip lining.

If you’re looking for other PNW locations to visit both McKenzie Pass-Santiam Pass Scenic Byway and Columbia River Gorge in Oregon also made the cut.
