Season one of the Alberta-shot HBO Series ‘The Last of Us’ was a smash hit, and it won’t be long until the second instalment of the series takes the small screen.
Before it makes us laugh and cry all over again though, here’s a look back at where it was filmed in and around Wild Rose Country.
The 2024 teaser trailer has dropped and we’re on the edge of our seats—but let’s go back to the beginning!
Filmed entirely in Wild Rose Country, half the fun of watching the series was arguing with your friends about where each sequence was shot.
Luckily, now we know for sure—thanks to Travel Alberta!

Over the course of its first nine episodes, several destinations were featured all over Alberta.
In the finale, notable locations included the Chinook Centre Parkade and Barron building in downtown Calgary, as well as the Queen Elizabeth II Ambulatory Care Centre in Grande Prairie, and Barrier Lake in Kananaskis.
In episode eight, we saw Waterton’s Bayshore Inn play a major role, along with the Tamarack Garage and The CL Ranch, which is located just outside of Calgary.
In addition, fans saw various locations around Canmore, Alberta come to life.
The Engine Bridge and downtown Canmore are perhaps the most notable, but you’ll also recognize the Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino.
In Calgary, fans may also remember seeing the 4th Avenue flyover, the airport tunnel, SAIT Polytechnic and Mount Royal University play a large role, while Edmontonions will recall a particularly dramatic scene at the Legislature Building.
Can’t wait to see more?
Most of season two was filmed in and around Vancouver, but you’ll still want to keep an eye out for Alberta’s Rocky Mountains when it finally premieres next year, as confirmed by HBO.
“Following a record-breaking first season as the most-watched debut season of a series ever for HBO, the second season of THE LAST OF US will debut in 2025 on HBO and will be available to stream on Max,” they said.
To re-watch season one of ‘The Last Of Us’, you can stream it here on Crave, otherwise, get ready, Alberta.
It’s sure to be one heck of a ride.
