First and foremost, you’ll need to know what’s open and what’s closed on Labour Day in Calgary this year – because nothing kills the vibe quicker than a locked door.

Hoping to catch a flick this Monday? Landmark CinemasCineplex and Calgary’s cheap theatre, Canyon Meadows, will all be open all weekend long.


Though we’d recommend checking their hours before heading out, Southcentre Mall, CrossIron MillsCF Chinook Centre, CF Market Mall and The CORE Shopping Centre will all be open on September 4th.

The Landfill

Good news, errand-doers, the Landfill will also be open this year on Monday. Check out their hours here.

The Calgary Zoo

Lions and tigers and bears (oh my!) – The Calgary Zoo will also be open this Monday and will be the perfect time to check out some Wildscapes!

Calgary-owned golf courses

Whether you were hoping to check out Maple Ridge or Lakeview, all Calgary-owned Calgary golf courses will also be open this Labour Day – Check out the link here to make a tee time now!

Calaway Park

This long weekend, adrenaline-seekers and families looking to enjoy the sunshine can do so at Calaway Park between 10 am to 7 pm. Hold on tight and enjoy!

Grocery & Liquor Stores

Having a BBQ? Need milk or need to do a last-minute beer run? You’re in luck. Though (again) we’d recommend checking your local shop’s hours, most liquor and grocery stores will be open this Monday.

The Calgary Tower

Views, views and more views. This Labour Day, check out the Calgary Tower, grab a bite to eat at Sky 360 and enjoy!

They say you should learn one thing a day – why not head to Telus Spark this Monday and have a blast while filling your brain with funky facts, educational films and Barbie fun at their Cultural Icon exhibit?

This Labour Day Calgarians will be able to visit several in-city museums like The Hangar Flight Museum and the Military Museum. Happy learning!

Heritage Park

Go back in time this Labour Day at Heritage Park! Open between 10 am and 5 pm, Calgarians can check out old-timey buildings, shops and carnival rides.

Calgary Transit

While transit will be operational on Monday, C-Trains, buses and On Demand transport will run on their Sunday schedule! For more information on fares, schedules and service changes, please visit their website.


Impound Lots 

As per their website, Calgary Parking Authority impound lots will be closed on September 4th this year. In addition, no payment is required for on-street parking, though holiday rates will be in effect at select parkades and select surface lots.

City-owned recreation facilities and leisure centres

Sorry, folks – but this Labour Day, indoor pools and fitness centres, arenas, arts centres, and the Calgary Soccer Centre will be closed in lieu of the Stat holiday. Leisure centres, however, will be open from 11 am to 5 pm.

Additionally, Glenmore Reservoir kayak & canoe rentals will be open from 9:30 am to 8 pm.

Post Offices

Whether it’s an Amazon return or an invitation – it’ll have to wait! This Labour Day (and every stat holiday) the post office will be closed.

While grocery and convenience stores will be open this Friday, Costco will be unshoppable this Monday Looks like you’ll have to get your massive hot do fix before September 4th! 


From the passport office to the DMV, all government offices will be closed on Labour Day.
