Fans of affordable Swedish furniture will soon have a new place to shop. IKEA is opening a store at Scarborough Town Centre, but unlike most of its locations around the city, this one will be small but mighty.

While this store is described as “small-format,” it is far from tiny, spanning 80,000 square feet on the ground floor of the shopping centre’s northeast end.

The small-format concept store will be the same as the one that just opened in downtown Toronto, which is essentially a downsized version of its regular store but still has thousands of products available and many showroom displays throughout.

The goal of the small-format store is to serve urban residents through a more accessible store location and to inspire shoppers to make the most of their small living spaces.

“This scaled retail concept brings home to life in a new way,” said IKEA in a press release. “It takes the inspiring IKEA experience to the doorstep of urban residents.”

The downtown location also has a food and drink menu, so hopefully, we can look forward to a similar dining concept when the new location opens next year.

“The planned Scarborough store is part of our broader investment in sustainability, affordability, and omnichannel shopping experiences that help to make us more accessible to our customers,” said the CEO of IKEA Canada.

Hopefully, this means even more locations are on the horizon. And when those are announced, you’ll be the first to know.
