After years of talking about redeveloping the 100-acre site at Foothills Athletic Park, a city committee has received the first draft of what might become of the land where Calgary’s iconic McMahon Stadium currently sits.

Though the project has yet to secure funding, the committee has given the public a sneak peek of what they hope to accomplish in the next few years.

If they’re able to do so, this multi-phase development would see that McMahon get a total facelift and the area get a brand new field house, as well as a new multi-use hotel and residential buildings.

As some of you may remember, council actually dedicated $19 million in start-up funding to the project in 2019. This money was to assist with the planning and work associated with designing the new field house – and it looks like they’re well on their way!

According to the city’s ‘roadmap’ the first phase could begin as early as 2022, but the completed project would not wrap for several years – 10 to 20 at the most, so hang tight!
