Here’s everything that resumes today as part of Alberta’s reopening strategy

It’s a big beautiful day, friends and we don’t want you to forget it. After an incredibly long month without access to restaurants, gyms and bars, Alberta has finally lifted some of its COVID restrictions and is back in the business of warm weather, micro-celebrations, and outdoor gatherings.

Today, Tuesday, June 1st could mark the beginning of the end as long as people across the province continue to socially distance themselves, follow guidelines, and get vaccinated – and that’s a major milestone!

As we enter the first stage of Alberta’s ‘Open for Summer‘ strategy, here’s everything that has been given the A-OK by the government.

OUTDOOR DINING

Perhaps the most significant thing to happen today? Restaurants, bars, and cafes are finally able to reopen for outdoor dining. Please note that a max of only 4 people will be allowed per table at a time and that everyone must live in the same household. Those who live alone, on the other hand, are prohibited to exceed a close contact maximum of 2 people.

SOCIAL GATHERINGS AND EVENTS

We hope you’ve got a comfortable camping chair, friends because outdoor social gatherings will also be allowed once again! These must not exceed 10 people and social distancing must still be recognized, but the weather’s beautiful and the air is fresh – so it shouldn’t be all that difficult. Indoor gatherings are still prohibited!

In addition to this, wedding ceremonies of 10 people (including the bride, groom, and officiant) may also take place and so can funerals of 20 people (not including staff). However, neither of these events may include a reception.

PERSONAL AND WELLNESS SERVICES

Need your hair cut? Nails did? Legs waxed? As of today, all personal and wellness services may re-open – by appointment only, so make sure you’re booking in advance!

OUTDOOR PHYSICAL, PERFORMANCE AND RECREATION ACTIVITIES

Though team sports are still prohibited, individual fitness, group training and classes, as well as any dance, band or singing lessons may resume – as long as they’re held outside and do not exceed 10 people.

RETAIL

For those who have been avoiding the malls, shops, kudos – also, the government has increased the occupancy to 15% of whatever their fire code states is the safest number of people. How exciting!

 PLACES OF WORSHIP

Much like any retail space, churches, temples and mosques may also resume in-person services as long as they stay within the 15% fire code occupancy.

Phew, well there you have it, friends! Everything that is included in the first step of our ‘Open For Summer Strategy.’
