It’s Friday! Not only is that a joyous occasion no matter what, but we also make it all the sweeter by doing a round-up of some of the best good news stories from across Canada. We know, we are so generous. But, hey, it’s the least we could do for our lovely readers. You work hard, so why not sit, take a moment, and check out these good news stories from the last week. You’ll be glad you did.
Carnivorous plants are our favourite type of plant. We’ll say it. So it’s super cool that a new kind was found just in Vancouver’s backyard. The plant, called Triantha occidentalis, feeds off of fruit flies to get stuck to its sticky fibres. Even cooler is the fact that butterflies, bees, and other big insects are not affected. What a unique and wonderful world we live in.
If you’re a cinephile much like us, heading to the theatre is a very special, and fun, experience. And, the new Cineplex CineClub has really piqued our interest. For just $9.99 a month, you get a free movie and discounts on the concession. Which, if our math is correct, an amazing deal. The new club launched this week on Wednesday, so why not become a member?
Another little win for the environment. One of the country’s biggest coffee chains is axing their plastic straws and rolling out more compostable paper ones later this month. And, not only that, but they are bringing back their reusable cup program. So, now you can enjoy your morning/midday/afternoon/evening/late night coffee with a little less waste. And to make the deal sweeter, if you use a reusable cup, you get a 10 cent discount.
Art lovers rejoice. This Ottawa art gallery just got a massive donation of art collected by a Montreal couple. The couple has been amassing a collection of art for years and has generously donated 258 works of art. Some of them by some big names like Rembrandt and Dürer. If you want to check out the exhibit, it’s well worth the trip.
Well, it’s looking like international travel might be a possibility soon. That is, of course, if you’re fully vaccinated. The Canadian government is creating a database so that Canadians can show international border agencies their vaccination status. There will be both an app and paper documents available to prove you’ve gotten both jabs.
Wow! Now both the week and our good news roundup are done. Feels good, doesn’t it? To just bask in the glow of a completed work week and the good vibes that such pleasant news brings you. Now go, have a great weekend and we’ll see you next Friday. Same place, same time.
