If December isn’t the month to treat yourself with a nice dinner out, then we don’t know which one is. Lucky for you, there are quite a few amazing new restaurants to try out in Vancouver over the next few weeks. From quick eats to comfort food to fine dining, let’s check out what’s arrived or will be soon!
Here are some new restaurants to check out in Vancouver this December.
Elephant has literally burst onto the scene, announcing that it was opening just earlier this week. Coming from the folks behind a Vancouver favourite, Dachi, we feel like this is a fitting successor to the former occupants of the space- Trans Am.
Where: 1879 Powell Street
It’s the hot dogs that are the main attraction for us here. The aptly-named ‘Vancouver Glizzies’ (slang for hot dogs) is offering all-beef hot dogs with a variety of toppings, ranging from the classics (Chicago-style) to the experimental (wasabi mayo, anyone?).
Where: 1111 Commercial Drive

Just up the street, we’ve got Community! Over 40 different beer taps and a comfort-food menu that specializes in pizza? Yeah, this is an easy sell for those evenings where we just want to relax with a couple of friends and live the simple (but beautiful) life.
Where: 1191 Commercial Drive
Using local, fresh ingredients, the menu at Carlino will offer everything from classic Italian snacks to lesser-known dishes, like a Friulian version of goulash and a pierogi-like potato dumpling called Cjarsons. It tracks, since the Italian region borders Slovakia, Croatia and Austria.
Where: 1115 Alberni Street
While it’s not a new space, we think Word. is more than worth a mention here. This new dinner series from the Nemesis GNW location offers a 6-course meal, optional wine pairings, and a curated playlist to accentuate the experience. A simple cup of joe, this is not.
Where: 555 Great Northern Way
A new restaurant is coming to Yaletown! Taking over the WildTale space is Nightshade, a brand new concept focusing on plant-based and vegetarian versions of Cambodian and other southeast Asian cuisines. And, with any luck, it’ll open in the next couple of weeks.
When: Slated to open December 15th
Where: 1079 Mainland Street
Last but certainly not least is Zarak, which has been generating serious buzz thanks to a series of preview dinners for a lucky few diners. According to them, the official opening date is fast approaching for this new concept from the folks behind Surrey’s very popular Afghan Kitchen.
When: Slated to open by mid-December
Where: 2102 Main Street
