If you plan on going out for dinner over the holiday season, you may want to give your restaurant of choice a quick call before you pop by. A growing number of Toronto bars, cafes, restos, and concert venues are closing down through the holidays in light of new capacity limits in Ontario and potential COVID exposures.
Restaurants are also subject to new curfews — restricting alcohol sales after 10 p.m. and closing entirely by 11 p.m. — which is another blow that makes it harder to fill tables.
All of these reasons are why dozens of restaurants are choosing to wind down operations for a few weeks and even indefinitely. The VP of Restaurants Canada, James Rilett, told the Toronto Star that for some places, it’s wiser to close entirely than to stay open under the restrictions.
