You can now take a 45-minute direct flight to Hornby Island from downtown Vancouver

If you’re a fan of travelling via seaplane, then we’ve got a cool update to share with you. Gulf Island Seaplanes recently announced a new base for their flights, adding Vancouver Harbour to the mix. Even more exciting? They’ve extended their service to Hornby Island with direct flights that will have you there in 45 minutes! That’s a pretty massive step forward from the 5+ hours it usually takes via ferry, car, and bus.

And besides, what better way to see beautiful BC than by floatplane??

The Indigenous-owned airline now connects passengers to seven stunning destinations across BC, including Gabriola Island, Decourcy Island, Thetis Island, Ruxton Island, and now Hornby Island. The addition of the Vancouver Harbour base to the Gabriola Island terminal will no doubt open up a ton of new destinations for air travellers to choose from.

“Flying from Vancouver Harbour positions us in a competitive market as it is a central and desirable location, which will open us up to further partnerships and connect us to more passengers,” said Co-Founder Alison Evans.

Want to commemorate your summer with a little joyride around Vancouver? Gulf Island Seaplanes also offers scenic aerial tours around the city – and the panoramic views are simply breathtaking. If you’re looking for a fun date idea or a way to celebrate a milestone, this is a great option.

In terms of future offerings, get ready for cultural scenic flights coming in spring 2023. Although it’s a little early for the full scoop – passengers will be able to learn about their destination’s rich history, the resilience of its Indigenous communities, and their cultural legacies.

With strong community ties, Gulf Island Seaplanes has several partnerships with other Indigenous-owned properties in the works – including their current partnership with Siwash Lake Wilderness Resort.
