Golden Ears is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and expansive provincial parks in B.C., and at just an hour away from Vancouver, it’s a great hop-in-the-car-and-go type of destination. While much of the park has sadly been closed this winter due to significant flood damage, things are about to turn around!
On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, the Ministry of Environment and Parks shared that the beloved park will soon fully reopen for the season (with the exception of a few trails), and that camping reservations go live this March – just in time for the official start of spring!
“Golden Ears Park is a natural treasure and the most popular park for camping in B.C.,” says Minister of Environment and Parks Tamara Davidson. “As a minister responsible for B.C.’s beautiful parks, it was vital we prioritized repair work so families can return together to enjoy this beautiful park in the spring.”
According to the Ministry, if construction goes as planned, vehicle access to the park is expected to be restored by March 17.
Two days later on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, reservations will open for the three front-country campgrounds at Golden Ears: Gold Creek, Alouette, and North Beach. “campsites at Gold Creek can be booked for arrivals starting March 28, 2025, and campsites for Alouette and North Beach can be booked for arrivals starting April 16, 2025,” shares the Ministry.
Reservations for all campgrounds will be released on a four-month rolling window, which means on March 19, 2025, park-goers can make their camping resos until July 19, 2025.
Drawing hundreds of thousands of regional visitors each year, Golden Ears is a fantastic example of B.C.’s coastal western hemlock forest, according to B.C. Parks. While the backcountry is extremely rugged and mountainous, visitors can find a relaxed vibe at the scenic Alouette Lake, which is popular among swimmers, paddlers, windsurfers, boaters, and fishers during the warmer months.
The Ministry notes that visitors should be prepared for traffic delays in accessing the northern portion of the park, including the campgrounds, as a small section of the road will be restricted to single-lane-alternating traffic. The road is expected to be fully open by early May.
Access to the park is by vehicle via Dewdney Trunk Road through Maple Ridge, according to B.C. Parks. If heading west, turn right onto 232nd and if heading east, turn left onto 232nd.
