This lakefront resort in Ontario is the ultimate winter escape from the city

Just one hour outside of Toronto is one of my favourite places for a trip away from the city! Friday Harbour Resort is located on the shores of Lake Simcoe and while this area is bumpin’ in the summer, it’s just as beautiful in the colder months offering fantastic views, plenty of restaurants and outdoor activities such as skating.

Let’s go!

Getting to Friday Harbour

One of the best parts about travelling from Toronto to Friday Harbour is that you don’t need a car to get there.

The Go Train via the Barrie line can get you to the area, but if you do have a vehicle the drive is a quick one-hour trip!

Exploring Friday Harbour

Let’s start with the dining because one thing about a weekend away, is you wanna eat good. Friday Harbour has 10 restaurants and a Starbucks. The restaurants range from fine dining to gastro pubs.

One of my favourites is the Lake Club, located right at the marina. The menu has options like striploin, fish and chips, risotto, and my favourite, the baked cod with saffron-scented rice, asparagus, fennel slaw, and dill beurre blanc.

A winter exclusive at the resort is The Skate Escape. The experience includes a gorgeous outdoor skating rink for visitors to enjoy, sweet and savoury bites, warm beverages and a warming lounge to relax at. There are also skate rentals and helmets available if needed.

Head over to the nature preserve if you’re down for a snowy walk! The preserve has seven km of trails through diverse woodland. If you prefer cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, there are trails for that, too! The Nest Golf Club has all the winter equipment rentals you’ll need.

If you want to book a stay at Friday Harbour, there’s a 4-night minimum for their selection of rooms, but guests are welcome to visit for just the day!

The resort’s motto is “live every day like it’s Friday,” and you know what, that’s something I can truly get behind. Enjoy the escape, Ontario.
