Edmonton Oilers winning the Stanley Cup means 30,000 free pizzas for fans

It has happened. The Edmonton Oilers won game 6 on Friday night, and we are ready for game 7 against the Florida Panthers. While the Oilers are on the road for this Stanley Cup Final game, Ice District will be busy with a sold-out Road Watch Party at Rogers Place, along with the tailgate and Fan Park taking place in the area. And we are so ready for it! Now, a pizza company has announced that if/when the Oilers win the Cup, you can get yourself one of 30,000 free pizzas!

According to Boston Pizza, it is promising 30,000 free pizzas if Edmonton brings home the win Monday night. “To mark the end of the country’s 30-year drought, Boston Pizza will make it rain pizzas in Oil Country and across Canada on parade day,” it stated over the weekend.

“Canadians heard our calls to cheer for Canada and rallied behind us,” said Peter Blackwell, SVP Marketing & Communications, Boston Pizza International. “While some refused to toss their allegiances aside, many chose to join the excitement and cheer on Canada’s last standing team. That calls for a celebration…and lots of pizza.”

No Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup since 1993. At the time, Montreal won a game against L.A.

Boston Pizza said that earlier in the playoffs, it encouraged Canadians to come together and team up in hopes of “ending the 30-year drought.”

“Die hard hockey buffs, newly minted Oil fans, and Edmonton locals should remain on the lookout for the biggest pizza delivery in history on parade day,” it said.

Additionally, Boston Pizza says that “local fans are also encouraged to make their way down to Boston Pizza’s Ice District location for a free pie.”

The Edmonton Oilers’ Game 7 against the Florida Panthers takes place on June 24th.
