A sure sign of spring is when the flowers start blooming! There are festivals around Ontario that celebrate all things flowers, from lilacs to tulips. Mark your calendars and get ready to take in some stunning sights and smells. Here are five flower festivals happening in Ontario this spring.

Canadian Tulip Festival

The Canadian Tulip Festivals takes place in Ottawa at Commissioners Park, where guests can take in the views of the blooming tulips.

This year’s festival runs from May 10th – 20th, 2024.

According to the Canada Tulip Festival, the celebration “was established to celebrate the historic Royal gift of tulips from the Dutch to Canadians immediately following the Second World War as a symbol of international friendship.”

This fest is the longest-running and largest-attended event in Ottawa with this year’s celebration including a drone show, movies in the park, a tulip market, food trucks and more!

Warkworth Lilac Festival

From tulips to lilacs! The Warkworth Lilac Festival is located in the Municipality of Trent Hills, about 90 minutes east of Toronto.

Bask in the beauty of the Millennium Lilac Trail where rare and beautiful lilacs of unique varieties have been planted in beds along the trail turning it into a showcase of lilacs!

Guests can expect food, music and vendors at this year’s rendition taking place from May 25th – 26th.

Peony Festival 

The Peony Festival in Oshawa is celebrating 20 years!

The annual festival gives guests the chance to explore the Oshawa Valley Botanical Garden and The Michael and Judi Denny Peony Garden.

The peony garden will also have a variety of handmade artisan merchandise vendors, community displays, delicious food, live entertainment and a prestigious judged peony competition featuring breathtaking blooms.

Lavender Festival

This flower festival is technically in the summer but it’s worth checking out!

The Lavender Festival is in the beautiful Prince Edward County located on a lavender farm featuring many cultivars of lavender that offer a myriad of colours, scents and tastes.

Guess can also enjoy food, entertainment and children’s activities.

When: July 6th – 7th & 13th & 14th

Sakura Cherry Blossoms

Now this one may not be an official festival, but it draws in a crowd so big you’d think it was one!

The Japanese sakura trees in Toronto’s High Park usually bloom in late April or early May, bringing in spectators from all over the province.

The pink petals create breathtaking views – something you definitely don’t want to miss out on.
