Vancouver confirmed as one of the host cities for the FIFA World Cup 2026

While the 2022 FIFA World Cup is just around the corner, we’re pleased to let you know that Vancouver will be joining the next one as a host! Today, FIFA announced the list of host cities for the 2026 World Cup, which will be spread across America, Mexico, and of course, Canada.

It’s actually quite a big deal, representing a few firsts for the tournament and the country. First off, the tournament will be expanding, with 80 matches planned, as opposed to the current 64. The partnership is special as well- it’s going to be the first time ever that 3 of them have joined forces to host.

And it’s a win for Canada, to boot! This will be the first time our country has hosted more than qualifying matches for the global tournament, and we should expect to see 10 or so games spread between Vancouver and Toronto, which also got the nod. Mexico will get around 10, too, while America takes the biggest slice of the sporty pie, with 60 games slated for them, including all matches from the quarterfinals onward.

Naturally, the matches will be played at BC Place, which has a seriously large capacity at some 54,000 fans. Psst… wanna know something fun? The truly devoted will be able to head to Seattle, which is set to be a host as well.

Regardless, and especially since Canada managed to make it into this year’s FIFA World Cup, we think we’re only going to get more and more excited about it!
