Seattle was just confirmed as a host city for the FIFA World Cup 2026

While the 2022 FIFA World Cup is just around the corner, we’re pleased to let you know that Seattle will be one of the host cities for the next one! Today, FIFA announced the list of host cities for the 2026 World Cup, which will be spread across Canada, Mexico, and of course, America.

It’s actually quite a big deal, representing a few firsts for the tournament. First off, the tournament will be expanding, with 80 matches planned, as opposed to the current 64. The partnership is special as well- it’s going to be the first time ever that 3 of them have joined forces to host.

It’s also a first for Seattle! While the USA hosted the FIFA World Cup back in 1994, Seattle was not chosen as one of the cities for the games. Their inclusion this go around? Well, it’s thanks in large part to Lumen Field, which will serve as the venue for the matches in 2026.

Host city announcements are ongoing, but Seattle will be joining Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Atlanta and Houston so far. An extra bonus? Vancouver, BC was also chosen as a host city, so we think quick trips back and forth between the cities will be a must for football fans.

Of course, things are still a ways out, but we’re already excited for it!
