The most scenic fall driving routes in Ontario to soak up the season

There’s no better time for a road trip than fall in Ontario. The leaves put on a show in fiery reds and golden yellows. Every twist in the road feels like a scene out of a movie. These driving routes in Ontario offer scenic views that take you through forests, farmland, and lakeside stretches that truly shine this time of the year.

So grab a coffee, queue up some Norah Jones and get ready for a fall drive that’s all about soaking up the season.

Northumberland County route

It’s time to take the scenic route. Fall is here, and we’re making the most of it with some colourful drives. Explore Northumberland County with these driving routes. The region is known for its rolling hills and glistening lakes.

Beaver Valley fall drive

Visit Grey has put together a very adventurous scenic fall drive along the southern shores of Georgian Bay. You’ll come across “quaint downtowns lined with unique stores, coffee shops, bakeries and restaurants.”

As the driver, you can decide whether to start the Beaver Valley fall drive in Thornbury or Meaford, Ont. Either way, you’ll get to explore each town and embrace its fall environment.

Per South Georgian Bay Tourism, it’ll take you about an hour and a half to complete the route, plus any other time you spend exploring the region.

Caledon region route

Visit Caledon has mapped out a scenic drive that showcases some of the best fall colours.

The road is full of twists and turns through lush, forested canopies. With the Credit River on one side and the majestic Niagara Escarpment on the other, you will want to slow down to appreciate the sights fully.

Kawartha Lakes drive

Now, for a really long, yet memorable experience, explore the Kawartha Lakes on one of these wonderful fall drives. The south route, the south east route, the north west route, and the north east route — options to choose from, each with its own experiences.

Orangeville, Ont. route

Orangeville’s tourism page has shared its favourite driving routes in the area, which promise “plenty of twists and turns along with beautiful vistas and ample opportunities to snap that perfect photo.”

The Blue Mountains and Scenic Caves route

If you want to spend your day zip-lining, hiking, and visiting the largest pedestrian village in Ontario, embark on this driving route. The Blue Mountains and Scenic Caves route is 42 km long with a drive time of around 40 minutes. GPS coordinates can be found on the Grey County website.
