Free Concerts and Fun Art: Downtown Spark is back in Edmonton

We hope you’re ready for a monstrously good time, because Downtown Spark is back in Edmonton starting today! Put on by Edmonton Downtown, this annual event mixes installations, parties, and more into 10 straight days of fun! Wanting to make the most of it? We’ve got the info you need.

First up- the art. For Downtown Spark this year, both an international name and a local one have joined the party. Designs in the Air, a UK-based firm, is behind both the ‘Tentacles’ installation at the Enbridge Centre and the ‘Chomper’ one at Yellowhead Brewery. Meanwhile, Edmonton’s own Third Space Design Group has created the ‘Urban Jungle’ installation at Alex Decoteau Park. In addition to these two major names, Edmonton has also tapped local artists to create murals at the park, too!

Of course, if you head to Alex Decoteau Park, you’ll be treated to a lot more than some art. Every day during Downtown Spark, visitors will get to enjoy free live music and food trucks, which makes it a great option for a little lunchtime break or a weekend stroll.

Which brings us to the two major events going on this year. This weekend, bring your pup to Bark & Brew, a two-day long, dog-friendly celebration which features street performers, a doggie photo booth, and even dog training demos alongside the regular fare.

And to cap things off, next weekend will see the Downtown Spark Block Party along Rice Howard Way. This event has one of the biggest artists of the entire festival, with Reuben and the Dark set to perform at 8:30PM. Oh, and the best part about all of this? Absolutely everything we’ve mentioned is FREE to attend!
