Disney’s The Lion King is officially coming to Toronto next year and they’ll be holding auditions for its biggest roles. Simba, Nala, Mufasa – get your game face on and apply. Here’s what to know.

The new Toronto production of Disney’s The Lion King begins at the Princess of Wales Theatre on November 2, 2024.

According to Mirvish Productions, Toronto will be the first city in North America to have a second sit-down production of the musical.

The Lion King is one of the most popular stage musicals in the world since premiering in 1997. It has been seen by over 112 million people and will surely make more fans in Toronto once it premieres in Canada once again.

“The Lion King is an iconic work of theatrical art and that rare show that appeals to people of all ages. For these reasons I have decided to do what has not been done in the commercial theatre industry in North America before: present a sit-down production of a show for the second time. The industry standard after an initial sit-down is to bring in the tour, instead of investing in building a new production,” said David Mirvish.

“I believe a new Toronto production will help launch a new generation of Canadian artists, whom we are committed to finding and supporting.”

That being said, the new wave of performers can audition for main roles online via video submissions.

According to the audition page, they are looking for “strong male-identifying and female-identifying singers who move very well – late teens to mid 40’s.”

Available roles include Scar, Mufasa, Adult Simba, Adult Nala, Timon, Pumbaa, Zazu, Shenz i& Banzai, and Ed.
