Two is better than one, but if you’re not convinced, look no further than Diamond Valley – Alberta’s newest town
Once divided into Black Diamond and Turner Valley, this charming destination is the result of a highly anticipated amalgamation that took place in 2023.
Here, visitors can check out Eau Claire Distillery and grab a drink, walk Friendship Trail, the 3 km path that passes their namesake McPherson Coal Mine, or head 30 minutes west to the beautiful Sheep River Falls.
From small shops and local restaurants like The Westwood, there’s plenty to do in the area, which is just southwest of Calgary.
Want to stay the night?
Book a room at the Black Diamond Hotel, which was built in 1929 and remains the biggest building downtown, then head to Vale’s Greenhouse before heading home.
Not only will you get plenty of fresh air (as long as the weather cooperates), learn a thing or two about their history, and meet the people who call it home, but you may also see some wildlife at some point on your trip.
According to the town’s website, bears, deer, cougars, coyotes, foxes, and Raccoons graze nearby – so keep your eyes peeled!
They may be small, but there are some mighty sights – so check it out!
There’s no place quite like it.
