Scenic day trip, anyone? Just over 90 minutes outside of Toronto, you can hike in a true storybook setting at the charming DeCew Falls.

Located in Thorold, the easy-peasy trail loop of Decew Falls takes you past the tumbling waterfall and the historic old mill perched on top.

The mill, called Morningstar Mill, is a rural industrial heritage site featuring a working grist mill that was founded in the 1880s.

It’s a little piece of history that draws visitors from all over the province. You can even rent Morningstar Mill for special events and parties.

The mill backs onto the Bruce Trail, which has a variety of trails to explore that are friendly for all skill levels.

There is some rocky terrain on the trail, which is important to note if you have mobility issues.

Otherwise, this 2.25-km loop is quite accessible and you won’t have to work too hard to enjoy those wonderful views.

There are several vantage points to admire the 21-metre waterfall.

You can gaze down at DeCew Falls from Morningstar Mill or see it from below on the lower trail.

There is also more than one cascade to see here. According to Waterfalls Ontario, you will find the “Tunnel Falls” just beside DeCew.

There is also the Lower DeCew Falls which is located downstream from the main Falls.

Most locals know that there are plenty of magical waterfalls to see in Ontario.

If you haven’t been to this one yet, take it from us — it is totally worth the visit!
