This Ontario town has a massive Italianate style mansion that offers magical Christmas candlelight tours

Sometimes, it is nice to take a step back in time. And Ontario has places to do just that. One of those places is the town of Selkirk.

Located on the shoreline of Lake Erie, Selkirk, Ontario, is a spot known for its provincial park. But besides that, Selkirk is also home to the historic Cottonwood Mansion.

The 6000+ square foot mansion has 15 rooms “full of Victorian splendour.”

Initially built between 1860-70 on farmland north of Selkirk, the mansion was the estate of William Holmes Jr. Today, the Italianate style mansion still has some of the original furniture donated by Holme’s family members, and it has become a museum.

Besides being open for educational programs and weddings, the Cottonwood Mansion Museum also hosts experiences and tours throughout the year. And it being the holiday season, there is a chance to experience a Victorian Christmas here.

“Explore the magic of Cottonwood during the Holiday Season with Cottonwood by Candlelight tours,” states the museum. ”

Your costumed host will guide you through the mansion by candlelight. See Cottonwood all dressed up for the holidays and learn about Victorian Christmas traditions.”

The experience concludes with hot apple cider, Christmas cookies, and a visit to Cottonwood’s Gift Shop.

Additionally, this year, if you visit on December 1st, in lieu of a ticket cost, the museum is accepting new, unopened toys for children 3-13, with a value of $15 or more. They will be gathering the toys for local families in need.

This season, the mansion is also offering a holiday-themed Afternoon Tea and tour. This includes a set menu of tea sandwiches, scones and desserts along with our exclusive Cottonwood teas and a tour of the festive mansion for each guest.

Cottonwood Mansion – Candlelight Tours
