This secluded BC park with a large beach has a trail that leads to a mesmerizing waterfall

Looking for a lesser-known provincial park to explore this season? Among the list of hidden gems across British Columbia is Conkle Lake Park, which BC Parks recommends for taking in the changing fall colours.

Situated in the Okanagan Highland, the secluded park is tucked away in the rolling hills of a lush forest, with a mesmerizing waterfall peaking out between the branches.

While the park has limited hiking options, there is a short two-kilometre trail that takes you around the clear waters of Conkle Lake to the waterfall, which is technically situated just outside of the park.

Conkle Lake sits on a large, expansive beach, making it a great swimming hole during the warmer months – or if you’re a daring cold plunger!

Winter camping info

While the campground officially operates from May 15th to September 2nd, the front country campsites are accessible year-round, weather permitting. Note that there are no camping fees or services offered during the off-season.

There are 34 vehicle-accessible campsites to choose from, all well-spaced out in a thick forest for privacy.

However, BC Parks notes that the gravel roads may be difficult to access during the winter months, so be sure to plan ahead for unpredictable weather and limited cell service if you’re planning on doing some winter camping.

Getting there

The park is accessible off of Highway 3 about six kilometres east of Bridesville, contrary to what Google Maps tells you. According to BC Parks, the access road from Okanagan Falls is not maintained or recommended, so stick with the former and follow Johnstone Creek Road to the park.
