Calgary’s mayor just publicly welcomed these visiting celebs on Instagram & the post was really sweet

Calgary has seen many a celebrity come through over the last few months, but few have gotten a welcome quite like the one that Mayor Naheed Nenshi publically gave British Olympic gold-medalist Tom Daley and Oscar award-winning director, Dustin Lance Black over the weekend.

Black, who is here shooting his upcoming series, Under The Banner Of Heaven and husband Daley, hot off an impressive showing at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, got what we consider to be a pretty kind message from the city official on Sunday via Instagram.

“Hey, @tomdaley and @dlanceblack, Mayor of Calgary here. Welcome to Calgary! We know you’ll love it here and we’ve put together some thoughts on a great Calgary autumn while supporting local business and community groups,” he said.

“Although I don’t think it’s a big secret, I hear one of you is into knitting. We have an incredible knitting community here with a lot of independent yarn dyers,” he continued.

For those who don’t follow the swimmer, Daley frequently posts about his love of the craft on his other social media page @madewithlovebytomdaley and he’s actually quite good! He’s even mentioned that it’s actually what keeps him so relaxed during competition – but this is far from the only recommendation Nenshi gave them to make the most of the city.

He also shared that Seton’s YMCA was the largest in the world, encouraged them to check out YYC pride, offered to give them some restaurant recommendations and even expressed how much Black would likely love working with Calgary’s film crews.

To see the entire post you can check out Nenshi’s Instagram here, or you can keep up with the talented couple’s Calgary trip here – because they are seriously active on social media and we love it! It’s always nice to see the city through the eyes of others!
