Big and small, Calgary and its surrounding areas will be showing up on millions of screens all over the world in the next few years. With major networks like HBO and now FX using our soundstages, studios and talent, it’s become pretty clear that Hollywood has taken notice of everything that we have to offer. This summer alone the city will host several big-budget productions including The Last of Us, Predator 5, and Under the Banner of Heaven, a true-crime series that, we’ve just learnt, will star pretty two well-known actors in its lead roles.

Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spiderman, Tick, Tick…BOOM!) and Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People, War Of The Worlds) will play two characters adapted from the real-life 1984 tragedy of Brenda Lafferty.

In a story of polygamy, delusion, and violence the series will focus on Pyre (Garfield) a detective who begins to question his faith after an encounter with Ron and Dan Lafferty, who were later charged with the murder of their Sister-In-Law Brenda (Edgar-Jones) and her infant daughter.

As if it needed any more star power, the series, which is set to begin filming at the beginning of August will actually be written by Acadamy Award-winning filmmaker, Dustin Lance Black (J. Edgar, Milk) and is rumoured to be directed by Ron Howard.

Howard has been attached to this project for a decade but has yet to be confirmed – so we’re not holding our breath, but we will be crossing our fingers.

Needless to say, we think that this is going to be a pretty big one, folks – so keep your eyes peeled!

Filming for Under the Banner Of Heaven is set to take place between August 3rd and November 1st of this year, so we’ll keep you all updated as more information is released. Until then – go and be proud, Calgary. We live in a pretty dope city.
