8 Things To Do At Home And Around Calgary This Week (June 29-July 3)

So, yes. Wednesday is Canada Day and it will look a bit different this year, and yes, we know that Stampede would’ve started this Friday, and that also won’t feel the same. BUT we’re here to help you make the best of it! This time around we should be focusing on the events that we do have and man theres a few good ones. Don’t believe us?  Here are just 8 things to do at home or around Calgary this week!

CHECK OUT THIS YEAR’S VIRTUAL SHAKESPEARE BY THE BOW!

Theatre Calgary is taking the web! Shakespeare by the Bow is one of Calgary’s favourite summer park activities, but unfortunately, because of the virus, we won’t be able to enjoy the fresh air while we watch… unless you want to sit on your patio? That’s basically the same thing, right?

LIVESTREAM CALGARY’S BIG CANADA DAY CONCERT 

On July 1st, Calgary will stream an incredible concert filmed at Studio Bell featuring local legend Paul Brandt, as well as Lynn Olagundoye, T Buckley, Chad Van Gaalen, and Bebe Buckskin. In addition to this, the city is also encouraging the public to wear red and white, then light up the night by setting up and then turning on their Christmas lights around 10 pm. How cute is that?

WATCH THE ‘FIRE ON THE LAKE’ CANADA DAY FIREWORKS

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 virus, this year’s Canada Day fireworks will be a zero-attendance event. Instead, you’re encouraged to stream it online from home! Unless of course, you live in Strathmore or Wheatland! You guy’s may be able to see it right out of a window.

VISIT THE FARMERS MARKET IN HILLHURST

Shop around, get some fresh air, and support local by browsing the vendors at this season’s Hillhurst Sunnyside Farmer’s Market! For those who are ready to go out and resume everyday life, they’ve taken the necessary precautions to keep you all as safe as possible. They’ve even exclusively given the 60+ crowd their own hours!

LET LOOSE AT A HOTELS LIVE CONCERT

In order to repair YYC’s entertainment industry while supporting local artists and businesses, The Calgary Hotel Association has come up with Hotels Live, a genius social distancing event. Using suite patios that overlook either a courtyard or in Calgary’s case a pool area, people will be able to watch a concert feeling like a VIP. This week, you can catch the “Hip Experience,’ a Tragically Hip cover band.

TAKE A COOKING CLASS WITH CANADA’S BEST

With Brewery and the Beast’s Homeschool Series, foodies can get ultra creative in the kitchen and behind the bar. Every week the video series will feature festival alumni chefs and guest bartenders, who will take you step-by-step through creating cocktails and unique dishes via live stream.

GRAB SOME GRUB AT THE STAMPEDE FOOD TRUCK RALLY 

Corn dogs, lemonade, pizza?! As we get older… and motion sick, midway food has become our favourite part of the 10-day event. This year, like every year before it, we can sink our teeth into greasy, sugar-coated, deep-fried goodness via drive-thru!

TAKE AN EVENING YOGA CLASS IN THE PARK

Inhale, exhale, stretch and sweat at this sunset Yoga Class in the Park. We honestly can’ think of a better way to wind down after a long day than some green grass, a cool breeze, and the smell of a yoga mat.
