Home & Away is closing the doors on its 17th Ave location

Via Home & Away Facebook

Since 2015, Home & Away has been one of Calgary’s favourite sports bars. It took over a large location on the less-popular end of 17th Avenue and turned it into a haven for sports fans and bar-hoppers alike. Unfortunately, that location flipped from a curse-turned-blessing back into a curse. At the end of the month, Home & Away will be closing its 17th Avenue doors for good.

Sad? Don’t drown yourself in beers and tears just yet, Home & Away intends to find a new spot to keep the party going. According to their Facebook page, rising property taxes and 17th Avenue construction proved to be a recipe for destruction.

Less foot traffic + higher costs = zero fun for anyone. Not pointing any fingers, but a Flames playoff run could have helped a little too. Heck, every hotspot on the Red Mile could have used at least a few more weeks of Calgary Flames hockey.

That being said, the Toronto Raptors becoming NBA champs provided a bit of a boost. Unfortunately, a bit of a boost wasn’t nearly enough. It’s sure tough to see this spot go but we’re confident it’s not the last we’ll hear from the H&A crew.

Also, Home & Away is wrapping things up with a bang. Obviously, it’s still open right now, but June 28th-30th will be a weekend full of final festivities. See you there!
