The May long weekend is almost here, and if you’re sticking around Calgary, you might be wondering what’s open and what isn’t.
Before you start making plans, it helps to know what Victoria Day actually means for the city and Canada as a whole. According to the Government of Canada, Victoria Day is a federal holiday that celebrates Queen Victoria’s birthday. It has been observed since the 1800s and is a tradition that plays an important role in Canadian history.
For many people, this long weekend is basically the unofficial start of summer. The time when patios start filling up, road trip season begins, and warmer weather arrives.
So with that in mind, here’s what’s open and closed this Victoria Day long weekend in Calgary.
Whether you’re staying in the city or just planning on keeping things low-key this long weekend, there’s plenty happening around Calgary to help take advantage of that extra day off.
If you’re looking for something to do, we recommend checking out local patios as they start to open. You can also explore some of the city’s best trails if the weather isn’t too rainy, or plan a quick day trip to Bragg Creek or Banff if you’re looking for a change of scenery.
Whatever your long weekend plans look like, we hope you make the most of it and have an amazing time out there, Calgary!
