Cross your fingers, because, with a recent boost from Mayor Jyoti Gondek, Calgary could see even more major productions in the near future.

This week, following a meet and greet with various owners and operational managers within the local industry, Gondek shared that she had embarked on an ambitious trip to Los Angeles in hopes of ‘selling’ our province to Hollywood studios.

While we don’t know every little detail about this particular trip, we can assume that the message she brought was probably pretty clear: Calgary is happy to host the world’s creatives and we’re pretty dang good at it.

“With the increasing demand for digital content globally, there is significant growth potential for Calgary’s film and television industry,” said the Mayor in a January press release.

“Every day we need to promote that our city is a film and TV-friendly location with award-winning talent and crews who can support local and foreign productions alike.”

From The Last of Us and Under The Banner Of Heaven Prey, The Revenant and more, Calgary has helped bring some incredible movies and shows to life and was even named one of the best places to be a filmmaker in 2021.

In addition, we’ve made quite the impression on visiting filmmakers and actors like Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones (who both gawked about how great it was to film here) but we think that the best is yet to come!

What will this trip bring? We don’t know, but we’ve got a good feeling about it.

Here’s to our future and to hoping that more people get to experience how great Alberta really is.
