It’s the end of an era, Calgary. The Eau Claire Market has announced it will be closing for good this spring.

According to the Market, its last day will be on Friday, May 31st.

“It is with mixed emotions that we announce the coming closure of Eau Claire Market on Friday, May 31st 2024. Since the early 90’s, Eau Claire Market has been more than just a shopping centre; it has been a free-spirited hub of activity, culture, and memories for all who have visited,” it states.

“The building will be handed over to the City of Calgary on June 1st to pave the way for the future Eau Claire Green Line LRT Station.”

The Market adds that JOEY Eau Claire and LOCAL Public Eatery will continue to operate, along with a section of the south surface parking lot.

“As we prepare to bid farewell to Eau Claire Market, we look to the future with optimism and excitement. When one door closes, another opens, and we are excited to see a new chapter that holds tremendous opportunity for the revitalization and growth of downtown Calgary,” it says.

The message, signed by “Harvard Developments and the staff/retailers of Eau Claire Market” sent its extended gratitude to past and current retailers, and to the citizens of Calgary.

“You have made Eau Claire Market a special place filled with warmth, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Though our physical doors may close, the spirit of Eau Claire Market will live on in the hearts of our community forever,” they said.

The news of the closure was initially announced in January 2023, and at the time, they had said that Eau Claire’s land will not be transferred until the second quarter of 2024. How time flies!

There will be a special farewell festival on Saturday, May 11th, to honour the legacy of the market prior to its closing.

Be sure to visit in the coming weeks!
