Lunar New Year is just around the corner, and it’s bringing the Year of the Tiger with it! While the actual day is February 1st, there are quite a few events and activities to enjoy both leading up to and after it. So, if you’re looking for some options about what to do for Lunar New Year in Vancouver, you’ve come to the right place!

LunarFest

Hosting activities, events and installations both virtually and across the city, LunarFest offers something for everyone! Our advice? Check out something in person, then make sure to tune in for a wide variety of virtual options on February 5th and 6th.

The Lantern City

Although this is technically a part of LunarFest, it’s big enough that it deserves its own mention. With installations happening at both Granville Island and šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square (formerly known as the Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza), The Lantern City brings together artists from all around Asia as well as local ones, making it a great option for those looking for some art.

When: January 27th to February 21st

Vancouver Canucks Lunar New Year Game

The fourth annual Lunar New Year Game for the Canucks is just around the corner! Not only will you get to see those stunning custom jerseys, but there will be a food truck market before the game and special contests and performances. The kicker? The first 5,000 fans in the door will receive lucky red envelopes with special memorabilia!

FlyOver Canada: Soar Over Taiwan

Taiwan has long been on our list of must-visit destinations, and we’re bummed that we haven’t gotten out there yet. Well, in addition to eating Taiwanese food every so often, we’re also tempted to check out this limited-time experience at FlyOver Canada, which shows off the country in a seriously beautiful fashion.

Lunar New Year: The Secret of the Red Envelopes

The Vancouver Public Library is even getting in on the fun this year! On Thursday, February 3rd you’ll not only learn how to make the symbolically important red envelope, but also hear some tips on how to get bigger and better ones year after year from seniors and in-laws.

Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden

For the festivities this year, Vancouver’s Classical Chinese Garden will be hosting two separate weekends of activities! Check out calligraphy demonstrations, try your hand at making a craft of your own, or enjoy some live storytelling. And of course, it’s a great way to just enjoy the beauty of the garden itself.
