Michelin Guide names these Mexican restaurants the best in Toronto

Mexican food is always a good idea. And you can’t go wrong with these choices, because according to the Michelin Guide, they are the best Mexican restaurants in Toronto.

The prestigious foodie guide released a list of the popular restaurants that put a creative and flavourful spin on traditional Mexican cuisine.

From buzzing hotspots to colourful taquerias, here are the best Mexican restaurants in Toronto according to the Michelin Guide.

Campechano

The short menu is far from simple at this buzzing spot in the downtown core.

Michelin calls out Campechano’s smoky barbacoa with jalapeño salsa and the beer-battered haddock with red cabbage as some of the standout dishes.

Where: 504 Adelaide Street & 460 College Street

Fonda Balam

This Mexican fonda, a.k.a. bistro, is said to have incredible birria and lengua tacos. The decor and furnishings gives it a unique atmosphere too.

Where: 802 Dundas Street

Quetzal

Quetzal is among the high-end Mexican restaurants in the city, and for good reason.

Most of its dishes are made on the “26-foot-long wood-burning grill that actively roars and smokes,” says the Michelin Guide.

The result is, of course, mouthwatering cuisine which is served in a modern and sleek dining room.

This bright and cheerful taqueria is completely meat-free, and the substitutes might be even better.

The tacos and quesadillas are stuffed with delicious ingredients like braised hibiscus, roasted potatoes, refried beans, and more.
