BC is ready to make sidewalk patios a permanent thing

If you’ve been loving Vancouver’s temporary patio program, then you’ll be happy to know that BC thinks they should stick around permanently! The provincial government has recently announced that temporary patios across the province can now apply to become permanent. Here’s what to know about it.

Since the temporary patio program was introduced last year, over 2,000 patios across the province has been created or expanded. While this was originally to adhere to public health rules, diners and owners alike soon found just how pleasant the added patio space was.

So, the provincial government is letting em stick around! Or at least, doing what it can to help. In fact, they’re simply changing liquor license bylaws so that they won’t get in the way. In the meanwhile, cities and towns will need to figure out how to move forward themselves.

As it stands, there are hundreds of temporary patios around the city. And, while we’re sure some of them are a little too inconvenient (requires shutting down roads or something) we’re confident that a fair percentage will stick around. At least, we hope that’s the case!
